Hey,

I'm Ryan.

I picked up a Nikon DSLR in 2015 before a family vacation to the west coast, and since have not been able to put a camera down. I have a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering and am currently pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering while working as a professor at Grand Valley State University, but spend much of my spare time with a camera or two weighing me down adventuring miles from home. I can be found spending late nights out on Lake Michigan piers, chasing rough weather around the state, spending time at racetracks, and tromping through the woods in search of wildflowers and wildlife with my wife, Becca, and Diabetic alert dog, Eike (previously Kimber), at my side. Each exposure I take often has a quite a story with it, as I love to find remote places or go shooting in more extreme conditions. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy producing it!

Imaging as an Engineer.

There are many approaches to art, some of which are more organic and other of which are more calculated. I enjoy finding a balance between the these two mediums. There is beauty in every environment, whether it be the beauty of the Fibonacci sequence found in nature, the raw interaction between architecture and creation, or the steel giants transporting cargo across the Great Lakes.

Capturing True Colors.

The vivid details around us have a story to tell. Whether it be a story of majestic triumph, epic failure, or solemn reflection, capturing these moments in time to tell their stories is what photography is about. Framing an image to tell a story in the short time a shutter is open can express more than the most descriptive words. The challenge is knowing where, when, and how long to open the shutter to freeze that story in time.
