The Legend Lives On
So much history on and within the depths of The Great Lakes involves the transportation channels across the lakes and the lighthouses safeguarding these paths. From the cold depths of Lake Superior, through the Soo Locks, south to Gary, and all the way east to Lake Ontario, raw materials of United States industry can be found in the cargo hold of ships. Many hold a historic significance, from being driving forces in the war efforts of World War II steel to legendary voyages, such as the Arthur M. Anderson who followed and search for the Edmund Fitzgerald in the fateful storm on November 10, 1975. These steel giants hold many stories as they slip silently day and night past lighthouses and ports, telling their stories in salutes, spotlights, and creaking steel superstructures.
